Series H

Included: six concerts
Prices: 195 to 576 €

For 14 years, Brett Dean was a violist with the Berliner Philharmoniker, who have now appointed him as their Composer in Residence. This season, the versatile musician will take the podium himself with the orchestra for the first time. The world premiere of his new violin concerto, featuring the wonderful violinist Vilde Frang, is also on the program. By contrast, Max Bruch’s melodic First Violin Concerto will be interpreted by Zubin Mehta and Pinchas Zukerman, who have been making music together – and with the Philharmoniker – for decades. Mitsuko Uchida, a particularly esteemed guest, will perform Beethoven’s youthfully fresh Second Piano Concerto. Vocal music is impressively represented in Series H as well: opera stars such as Allan Clayton and the young Elena Villalón promise anticipation for performances of Berlioz’s oratorio on Christ and Humperdinck’s fairytale opera Hänsel und Gretel.

Concerts

Brett Dean with a beard sits alone in the middle of many empty wooden auditorium seats, looking forward with his arms resting on the seat in front of him. The hall is empty and well-lit.
