Info

A Christmas oratorio in the French style. In L’Enfance du Christ, Hector Berlioz tells the story of events following the birth of Jesus: the visit of the Three Wise Men to the cruel King Herod, and the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt, where they finally find refuge. Berlioz’s music combines operatic drama with quiet devotion, radiant orchestral colours with magnificent choral writing. The work brought the composer great acclaim. With this performance, Maxime Pascal – one of the musical directors of the Deutsche Oper Berlin – makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
