Info
“Nature, mysticism and world-weariness!” said Jean Sibelius of his bold Fifth Symphony. The Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo conducts his compatriot’s symphony alongside Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto, a darkly brooding yet defiant work which foreshadows the horrors of the Second World War. The soloist is the Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang. The concert opens with a world premiere: in Phantoms, Composer in Residence Brett Dean embarks on a wild journey through the orchestra’s sections.
