At the invitation of the Berliner Philharmoniker
Info
They were giants: Anton Bruckner and Gustav Mahler. Both rank among the most important composers of the late Romantic era – deeply individual, yet kindred spirits in many ways. What could be more fitting than dedicating a concert to these two masters?
The young Austrian organist Lukas Hasler divides his life between Vienna and Los Angeles and appears frequently on international concert stages. For his debut in the Philharmonic organ recital series, he is joined by the Italian mezzo-soprano Martina Baroni. Alongside works by Bruckner and Mahler, excerpts from the Second Symphony by Mahler’s French contemporary Louis Vierne are included in the programme.

Lukas Hasler, who was named one of “Classic FM’s Rising Stars” for 2026 by the British radio station ClassicFM, completed his organ studies with distinction under Ulrich Walther at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and went on to earn an additional degree in cultural and media management in Hamburg. He currently lives and works in Vienna and Los Angeles and is a doctoral student at the University of Southern California under Cherry Rhodes. His concert activities have taken him from the Bruckner Organ in St. Florian to Brisbane’s City Hall; in the United States he has already performed in major cathedrals as well as in concert halls such as the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in Boston and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Lukas Hasler is also in demand as a pedagogue and is active as a composer and arranger: his early works received awards at the national competition “Jugend komponiert,” and his organ arrangements have since become a regular part of his concert repertoire. In 2019, he released his first solo recording featuring works by Bach, Liszt, and Dupré, as well as his own improvisations, recorded on the grand organ in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein.
The Italian mezzo-soprano and pianist Martina Baroni has been a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since the 2024/25 season—at just 25 years old—and performs roles such as the Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen, Polina in The Queen of Spades, and Fenena in Nabucco. In addition, Martina Baroni appears as a soloist at chamber music concerts and festivals throughout Europe, including the Festival des Nuits Romantiques in Aix-les-Bains and the Mozartfest in Würzburg. She has won first prizes at the Gaetano Zinetti International Singing Competition in 2023 and at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition in 2024
