Teaser: Kirill Petrenko conducts Tchaikovsky’s Overture “Romeo and Juliet”
A thrilling moment: for the first time since the lockdown, the Berliner Philharmoniker and their chief conductor Kirill Petrenko gave a concert on 20 March 2021 in front of an audience of 1,000 who were moved, gripped and delighted by the performance of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony. In its concert review, the Berliner Zeitung praised the “incredibly beautiful sound of the Berliner Philharmoniker, noble and expressive at the same time”. At the end there was a standing ovation.

For all those who were not able to be there or who want to relive the event, you can watch a recording of the concert now in the Digital Concert Hall.
The event was part of a pilot project initiated by the Berlin Senate in which other Berlin cultural institutions are also participating. The aim was to test the practicability of events in conjunction with SARS-CoV-2 antigen tests and, looking ahead, to find a way to hold cultural events in front of an audience.
