Brahms and Liszt, two of the romantic era’s great composers, shared a heartfelt mutual dislike. As part of our season focus Kontrovers!, they face off in a concert with Michael Sanderling. Brahms is returns when Daniele Gatti conducts his Third Symphony. Bach’s Mass in B minor, seldom on the Berliner Philharmoniker’s programmes, is rightly considered one of the composer’s consummate works. Kirill Petrenko conducts Stravinsky’s charming Pulcinella, Le Sacre du printemps displays a very different side of Stravinsky. To conclude the series, Franz Welser-Möst conducts two sharply contrasting Austrian works: Schubert’s Third Symphony and music from Strauss’ Rosenkavalier.
