In autumn 2025, the organ of the Philharmonie Berlin will celebrate its 60th anniversary! The anniversary concert in this series will be played by one of the most fascinating organists of our time: Jan Liebermann. The 20-year-old, who has received numerous awards and scholarships, captivates international audiences with his instrument, not least through his successful YouTube videos.
In the second matinee, Karol Mossakowski, organist at the Church of St. Sulpice in Paris, and Andreas Wittmann, the long-time oboist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, will present a festive programme spanning baroque to romanticism. The concert will culminate in a magnificent work by Marcel Dupré, underlining the fact that the organ of the Philharmonie remains one of the finest concert hall organs in Europe, even after 60 years.
Although Gustav Mahler did not compose any organ works, his music sounds magnificent on the king of instruments. This is demonstrated by two young Austrians: organist Lukas Hasler and countertenor Alois Mühlbacher. Mahler's contemporary Louis Vierne will be represented with excerpts from his Second Symphony.
The closing concert of the series will feature Richard Gowers, based in London, and the brass players of the Berliner Philharmoniker performing a symphonic programme of the highest calibre. Alongside works by Strauss and Wagner, Miloslav Kabeláč’s expressive Third Symphony will also be heard, conducted by his compatriot Jakub Hrůša.
Outside the subscription series, we will celebrate the anniversary of our organ on 13 December 2025 in a late-night concert with the organist Jan Liebermann, the principal flutist of the Philharmoniker, Emmanuel Pahud, and popular works by Bach and Widor. As a subscriber to our organ series, you will receive a 15% discount on ticket purchases for this event.
