Info
Daniil Trifonov, the Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko have already performed together on several occasions, – with the press describing them as a “sonic hurricane” and an “inspired exchange”. Their collaboration continues with Brahms’s First Piano Concerto, a work in which Trifonov can deploy both his technical accomplishment and his expressive depth, from chamber-like delicacy to symphonic power. The concert’s second half features Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra. Opening with a hymn-like sunrise, the work traces the philosopher Zarathustra’s journey to humanity in music of drama, mysticism orchestral splendour.
