Inside “Das Rheingold” – Part 1

Ahead of the Rheingold premiere at the Salzburg Easter Festival, we went behind the scenes and spoke to some of those involved: baritone Christian Gerhaher, our Wotan, director Kirill Serebrennikov, and of course members of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

In part one, we explore Wagner’s fascinating, mystical sound world and a god who at times shrinks into a poisonous dwarf. And we talk about the Felsenreitschule, which Kirill Serebrennikov calls “a paradise for the musicians and a hell for the director”.
