First the grand season opening in Berlin, then it’s time to pack the suitcases: this has been the way the Berliner Philharmoniker have launched their concert season for many years. As always, the orchestra first appears at two festivals – the Salzburg Festival and the Lucerne Festival. This year, the tour then continues to Paris and Luxembourg. Under the direction of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, the Berliner Philharmoniker will present Mahler’s Ninth and Brahms’s First Symphony to European audiences. The programme also includes Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Oboe Concerto, performed by Albrecht Mayer, the orchestra’s principal oboist. On our blog, we offer lots of behind-the-scenes insights into the 2025 festival tour.
