1 May marks the Berliner Philharmoniker’s traditional Europakonzert – this year in the picturesque Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. On the podium: Riccardo Muti, who has enjoyed a close artistic relationship with the orchestra for over 50 years. The programme features works by Rossini, Verdi and Brahms – forming a musical bridge between Italy and Germany. The tour then continues to northern Italy, where the orchestra is a guest at the renowned Bologna Festival. Join us on this special journey.

30 April 2025: Youth Orchestra Q&A

During their tours, members of the Berliner Philharmoniker make time for exchanges with youth orchestras, schools, or other institutions. In Bari, some of them took part in a Q&A session with the AYSO Orchestra: Simon Bernardini, Raphael Haeger, Bertold Stecher, Harry Ward and Sarah Willis.

30 April 2025: Arrival in Bari and Dress Rehearsal

Berlin – Bari: dress rehearsal. The schedule for this concert tour leaves little time to spare. After landing in the southern Italian city of Bari, the orchestra has only a short opportunity to explore the town and to soak up a bit of sunshine. At 6 p.m., the public dress rehearsal begins. The venue for this year’s Europakonzert is the striking Teatro Petruzzelli, just a few steps from the harbour. Here are some first impressions from day one of the tour.

Background

Every 1 May since 1991, the Europakonzert has been performed in a special location somewhere in Europe. But why? We spoke with principal cellist and media board member Olaf Maninger.
