Biography

Making music was not part of his family life. However, his parents recognized Eduardo Rios Silva’s talent early on and encouraged their son to learn an instrument. He chose the violin after hearing it played in concerts by the National Symphony Orchestra in his home town of Lima. “Today I am infinitely grateful for that decision – above all because of the incredible repertoire available to the violin in the orchestra, in chamber music and as a solo instrument,” he says. Eduardo Rios Silva initially studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Peru. He later moved to Los Angeles to study at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he was taught by Robert Lipsett and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree and Artist Diploma. In

2015, he won the Sphinx Competition in Detroit and made his debut as a soloist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. However, he did not aspire to a career as a soloist; rather, he wanted to play in an orchestra: “I was fascinated by the way an orchestra can be at once powerful, flexible and incredibly versatile. Playing in an orchestra forces me to listen to the other sections and to communicate with them – just as you do in chamber music.” He gained his first orchestral experience through the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Resident Fellowship, as guest concertmaster of the Nashville Symphony and as First Assistant Concertmaster with the Seattle Symphony, before joining the Berliner Philharmoniker.
Off stage, he enjoys exploring second-hand shops and flea markets. He also loves discovering new neighbourhoods while out running, and  discovering local hangouts.

“Being part of the Berliner Philharmoniker is a dream come true. From my very first rehearsal, I was blown away by the orchestra’s distinctive sound. During my first concert, I experienced a level of commitment and passion beyond anything I had ever known. Everyone gives their all, no matter where they sit in the orchestra.”
