We are proud to announce that Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson is the Berliner Philharmoniker’s new principal flautist, selected by the orchestra through a rigorous audition progress.

Born in Iceland, he has been principal flautist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 2015. He had previously held the same position in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York, from 2008 to 2016. He began his musical training at the Reykjavík School of Music with Bernhard Wilkinson before continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Peter Lloyd. In addition to his orchestral activities, Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson performs as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Europe and Japan. He teaches at the DePaul University School of Music, at the Pacific Music Festival and in numerous masterclasses.
