To mark the 300th anniversary of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, the Berliner Barock Solisten, together with Daishin Kashimoto, first concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker, are releasing a new recording of this famous concerto cycle. The album will be released on 1 May 2026 on Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings as a CD/SACD (hybrid).
The release recalls the ensemble’s beginnings: the very first recording by the Berliner Barock Solisten, made 30 years ago, was also of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The new recording is conceived as a tribute to Rainer Kussmaul, who co-founded the ensemble and left a lasting mark on both the Berliner Barock Solisten and Daishin Kashimoto.
The album will be released as a hybrid CD which can be played both on conventional CD players and in high-resolution quality and surround sound on SACD players. The cover features a collage with motifs of The Four Seasons by the artist Johannes Itten. An extensive booklet with an interview with Daishin Kashimoto and Raimar Orlovsky, as well as an essay by Benjamin Poore on 300 years of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, accompanies the release.
From 1 May 2026, the recording will be available from the Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings online shop and from selected specialist retailers. On streaming platforms, the album will be released in stages; Spring is already available to stream from many providers.
