The historical panorama of our Friday subscription spans from Bach to Boulez. Hear the spatial potential of the Philharmonie in new ways through Boulez’s Rituel in memoriam Bruno Maderna, for which the musicians are divided into eight groups. Scandalous music of a different kind can be heard on the same programme, in the form of Stravinsky’s primal Le Sacre du Printemps. By contrast, Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony, conducted here by Herbert Blomstedt, conveys a sense of serene grandeur. Artist in Residence Janine Jansen, acclaimed for her nuanced tone and expressive intensity, is featured twice. In Brahms’ Violin Concerto, she performs with Kirill Petrenko. Jakub Hrůša, as Berlin audiences have come to expect, brings music from his Czech homeland.

A man with short hair is standing in front of a large window. He is wearing a black suit, has his hands in his trouser pockets and is looking into the camera.
