The violinist Janine Jansen captivates with a unique blend of temperament and sensitivity, a sense of style and a strong artistic vision. Since her debut in 2006, her collaboration with the Berliner Philharmoniker has steadily intensified. Janine Jansen has performed with the orchestra not only in subscription concerts, but also at the Waldbühne, on New Year’s Eve, and at the Easter Festival. This partnership now reaches a peak, as the charismatic musician shares the 2025/26 season with the Berliner Philharmoniker as Artist in Residence.
One of the highlights of the concert calendar will be Jansen’s interpretation of Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto – a powerful work in which soloist and orchestra are equal partners. The concert will be conducted by chief conductor Kirill Petrenko. His predecessor, Sir Simon Rattle, will conduct when Janine Jansen performs Sergei Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto, which blends virtuosic classical elegance with modernity and humour.
Janine Jansen’s love for chamber music is evident in two concerts she will perform with members of the Karajan Academy and the Berliner Philharmoniker. The programme includes Beethoven’s Septet, a piece that blends wind and string sounds, serenade-like charm, and profound expression. Also featured is George Enescu’s String Octet, a stroke of genius by a teenage composer combining passages of orchestral grandeur with moments of almost trance-like transcendence. It’s no wonder that this passionate composition has been one of Janine Jansen’s favourite works for many years.
