Geometric shapes in red, blue, yellow, black, and white are arranged artistically on a beige background with intersecting colored lines and shadows, creating an abstract, modern composition.

As the 20th century dawned, the world of music hovered between curiosity and confusion. How should the new modern age be reflected through sound? In Russia and early Soviet Union, fascinating concepts and works emerged – and this flex package offers a glimpse of them. Here, you’ll encounter Igor Stravinsky, whose ballet Le Sacre du printemps showed just how much of a revolutionary he could be, while his neoclassical works, like Pulcinella, show him shifting his gaze firmly back to the past. Dmitri Shostakovich, of course, is a crucial figure, with works that offer a personal, expressive response to the horrors of Stalinism. Sergei Prokofiev’s biting and lively ballet Romeo and Juliet is also featured, and in the same concert, you’ll discover the often-overlooked music of Mieczysław Weinberg.
