With Die Walküre, the true drama of Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen begins – and it is here that two of the most compelling women in operatic history, Brünnhilde and Sieglinde, step onto the stage. The work, in a production by Kirill Serebrennikov, forms the centrepiece of the Easter Festival in Salzburg. Kirill Petrenko conducts, and also leads a performance of Beethoven’s monumental Missa solemnis. Further highlights include Handel’s Messiah with Emmanuelle Haïm and a programme featuring Martha Argerich and Lahav Shani. In addition, chamber ensembles and the Education & Outreach programme of the Berliner Philharmoniker will bring a festive spirit to venues throughout the city.
