Nature in constant transformation: Antonio Vivaldi’s cycle of concertos The Four
Seasons traces the course of the year in music – with chirping birds, rumbling
thunderstorms, dancing peasants, joyful hunting parties and biting frost. The work,
performed by the Berliner Barock Solisten with Daishin Kashimoto, First Concertmaster
of the Berliner Philharmoniker, as soloist, is among the most popular compositions of
the Baroque era. Yet, Vivaldi’s contemporaries also composed works of dazzling energy,
as demonstrated by the concerti grossi of Tartini, Telemann and Geminiani.
