Info

As a musical ambassador of Ukraine, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra returns to the Philharmonie Berlin, where its past performances have been acclaimed for the energy and commitment of its playing and for its imaginative programmes. This concert opens with a romantic overture by Sergei Bortkiewicz, born in Kharkiv, which introduces two major works of the late Romantic era: Jean Sibelius’s heartfelt, highly virtuosic Violin Concerto and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony “From the New World”, in which impressions of America mingle with yearning for his native Bohemia. The soloist is Marlene Ito, Principal Second Violin of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Christian Blex conducts.
