Lahav Shani and Martha Argerich

The image shows Lahav Shani, with a beard and dark hair, leaning against a concrete pillar in a corridor. He wears a dark jacket and trousers, gazing thoughtfully to the side. The scene features a tiled floor and a ceiling with modern design elements.

    Info

Martha Argerich’s appearances with the Berliner Philharmoniker are always special events. This time, we hear her in Sergei Prokofiev’s effervescent, high-voltage Third Piano Concerto. The concert opens with Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, whose shimmering sounds transport us into an impressionistic dream world. Chicks in their shells, the hut of the witch Baba Yaga, or the Great Gate of Kyiv – these and other vivid images are brought to life in Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Maurice Ravel’s orchestration made the cycle one of the most popular works in the orchestral repertoire. Lahav Shani conducts.
