This season, the Karajan-Akademie once again awards the Claudio Abbado Composition Prize to an outstanding young composer. This time, the prize was awarded to the Croatian composer Sara Glojnarić. The award includes the commission of a new work for the Academy, premiered in this concert. The programme also features Arnold Schoenberg’s expressionist Verklärte Nacht and Mozart’s impassioned Symphony No. 40. Visual artist Norbert Bisky joins the musicians live on stage, creating a new work in response to Schoenberg’s music as the performance unfolds.

His canvas is positioned in front of Block C, facing Blocks A and D – so if you’re seated in Block C, G or H, you won’t be able to see the artwork during this time. You’ll have the chance to view it during the interval.
