This season, the Karajan-Akademie once again awards the Claudio Abbado Composition Prize to an outstanding young composer. The prize includes the commission of a new work for the Academy, premiered in this concert. The programme also features Arnold Schoenberg’s expressionist Verklärte Nacht and Mozart’s impassioned Symphony No. 40. Visual artist Norbert Bisky joins the musicians live on stage, creating a new work in response to Schoenberg’s music as the performance unfolds.
