The prominence of religion in Europe has declined dramatically in recent years. But what do society and democracy lose when religion no longer plays a role? And should religion still play a role in shaping our democracy? At the same time, a form of Christian nationalism has been observable in the United States for quite some time. Without it, Donald Trump would not have been elected to the White House. Can religion also pose a threat to democracy? These issues will be discussed by the former regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, Margot Käßmann, and WDR journalist Arnd Henze, in conversation with Christiane Florin.
