Info
In the footsteps of Joseph Haydn: Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, one of Austria’s most beautiful Baroque palaces, was a glittering social centre in the 18th century under Prince Nikolaus I – and also the composer’s long-standing place of work. As court conductor, he created new musical genres here, such as the symphony. At the European Concert, Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker will perform an overture by Haydn alongside works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky, who took up Haydn’s legacy, developed it further and reinterpreted it. The soloist in Tchaikovsky’s graceful Rococo Variations is the cellist Gautier Capuçon.
