Gustav Mahler’s Eighth Symphony ranks among the most lavishly-scored works in music history. In addition to a huge orchestra, it calls for eight vocal soloists and three choirs. Kirill Petrenko conducts this monumental work at the Salzburg Easter Festival. The Berliner Philharmoniker played the symphony in Berlin in January; you can relive that concert in the Digital Concert Hall.
Before the second performance of the work on 3 April, our photographer offers us a view from above of the preparations going on behind the scenes.
