Inside “Das Rheingold” – Part 2

Wagner’s Rheingold can be staged in many different ways. In this video, we explore director Kirill Serebrennikov’s interpretation for the Salzburg Easter Festival. He talks about his concept of relocating the story to a fictional, post-apocalyptic Africa; we encounter magical sculptures, and speak with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker about the solitude of the bass clarinet and the horn section’s “antennae”.

Our own Wotan, Christian Gerhaher, also has his say, reflecting on the mixture of joy and doubt involved in preparing his role.
