This was the Berliner Philharmoniker’s seventh trip to Kawasaki. It felt like a visit to old friends, and the warmth was palpable in the welcome given to the orchestra and chief conductor Kirill Petrenko. The concert’s highlight was Brahms’s First Symphony, a piece which has always been a cornerstone of the Philharmoniker’s repertoire.
