Diyang Mei, originally from Hunan in China, has been 1st principal violist of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2022. While on tour in Shanghai, we met up with him for an interview. He told us about how the city’s blend of international flair and Chinese tradition fascinates him. He also talked about what it was like to find his place in the orchestra as a young musician.
