Third prize in the Carl Flesch Competition (1987), first prize in the String Trio category at the Leo Weiner Competition
Zoltán Almási received his musical training at the Academy in his native Budapest. In 1988 he was concertmaster (leader) of the World Youth Orchestra. From 1989 to 1991 he further refined his playing with Toru Yasunaga as a scholar of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Orchestra Academy. Two years after joining the orchestra, he and three Philharmonic colleagues founded the Apos Quartet. In addition, Almási is a member of the Berliner Barock Solisten (Berlin Baroque Soloists).
