Biography

Lorenzo Messina has played the flute since the age of eleven. In 2016, he began his studies with Diego Collino at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. In 2021, he transferred to the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts to study with Davide Formisano. He also regularly attended masterclasses with, among others, Andrea Oliva, Emily Beynon and James Galway. While still a student, he won prizes at a number of national and international competitions, including the Premio Crescendo and the Carlo Maria Giulini Competition. In 2024, he joined the Karajan Academy. While still at the Academy, he won the audition for a flute position with the Berliner Philharmoniker. He gained orchestral experience as a guest player with the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe and the Stuttgart State Opera, as well as Associate Principal Flute with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. He also performs as a soloist and is active as a chamber musician.
