Biography

“The Berlin Philharmonic’s close connection to the music of Johannes Brahms is unequalled anywhere in the world”, wrote a New York Times critic following an appearance by the orchestra at Carnegie Hall. It is in this tradition that the Berlin Brahms Ensemble was founded in 2010 exclusively from Berlin Philharmonic string players.

At the heart of its repertoire is Brahms’s entire chamber-music œuvre, not only his works for strings (the quartets, quintets and sextets), but also his trios, quartets and quintet for strings and piano as well as the Clarinet Quintet. In addition, the musicians devote themselves to other German Romantic composers such as Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann. In 2012, the ensemble will release its first CD, featuring music by Johannes Brahms.
