Biography

Adrian Oetiker (piano), Christoph Streuli (violin) and David Riniker (cello) founded the Feininger Trio in 2005. Their ensemble is named after the painter, graphic artist and co-founder of the Bauhaus, Lyonel Feininger, whose Berlin studio was not far from the ensemble’s rehearsal venue in the Zehlendorf district. The members feel a close connection to his personality and his work.

After the three musicians, who have known each other since their student days, had gained sufficient chamber music experience in a wide variety of formations, they wanted to incorporate this experience into the rich repertoire of the piano trio genre. They began by exploring the core classical repertoire, in particular the trio works of Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvořák. They are also interested in classical modernism (Charles Ives, Alexander Zemlinsky, Erich Wolfgang Korngold). In 2013 and 2017, the ensemble released CD recordings on AVI MUSIC with works by Suk, Dvořák and Smetana as well as compositions by Debussy and Ravel. Another programme concept is the combination of music and literature. The trio has performed together with actress Katharina Thalbach at the Easter Festival in Baden-Bade, among others.
