The benefit concert, which was presented by the outgoing Federal President, Joachim Gauck, on 12 March, was a musical success and also served a charitable purpose: Nearly 140,000 euros were raised from ticket sales and donations. The sum goes to UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund.
“We are delighted about these tremendous results and hope we can provide long-term support for UNICEF,” says Martin Hoffmann, General Manager of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation. “Our sincere thanks to everyone who participated and helped make the President’s benefit concert possible and, above all, thanks to our partners at UNICEF.”
Dr. Jürgen Heraeus, Chairman of UNICEF Germany, explained: “Despite many advances, today we are still confronted with enormous challenges and crises; countless children are in urgent need of our help. In times like these it is invaluable for us to have a reliable partner like the Berliner Philharmoniker at our side.”
