As early as his debut in 2006, the orchestra felt that Kirill Petrenko was a very extraordinary conductor – charismatic, captivating, revolutionary. “He was like a meteor”, remembers violist Matthew Hunter. It was only logical that the Berliner Philharmoniker should elect him to succeed Sir Simon Rattle as chief conductor in 2015. Kirill Petrenko now takes up his new post.
