Patricia Kopatchinskaja on “Pierrot lunaire”

“Late night concert” on 9 March

Arnold Schoenberg’s melodrama Pierrot lunaire is an enigmatic work. It combines elements of Expressionism, Surrealism and Cubism, and is regarded as a milestone on Schoenberg’s path to a modern musical language. The violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, who will be performing as the narrator at the Late Night concert on 9 March, tells us in her video why she has always felt like Pierrot, what inspires her as a musician about the composition, and why she does not need to understand the work to love it.
