Zubin Mehta on Verdi’s “Otello”

In conversation with Noah Bendix-Balgley

The anticipation is great: at both the Baden-Baden Easter Festival and in Berlin, Zubin Mehta will conduct Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, a work that has inspired him since his youth and that he has performed at many major opera houses. In an interview with our first concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley, Mehta reveals what he learned working with such great Otello performers as Jon Vickers and Plácido Domingo, what tips Herbert von Karajan gave him, and why it is important for him as a conductor to be present at stage rehearsals.
