George Benjamin on his octet

When George Benjamin, Composer in Residence 2018/2019, wrote his octet, he was still at the beginning of his career. The piece – according to the composer – is a really early work. In our video, Benjamin reveals the significance of the octet for his artistic development and why he still likes to hear it today. He has the opportunity to do so on 16 February: the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, will be performing the work as part of its jubilee concert in the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie.
