An exciting programme and a brilliant soloist – the New Year’s Eve concert by the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle has all the ingredients to put the audience in a party mood as a rousing start to a festive New Year's Eve. Star guest Anne-Sophie Mutter will shine with Camille Saint-Saëns’s thrilling piece Introduction et Rondo capriccioso and Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane, a highly virtuoso rhapsody for violin and orchestra in which the French composer follows Niccolò Paganini’s virtuoso pieces for violin, striking a folkloristic tone by using the so-called “gypsy scale”. The rest of the programme is full of esprit and devoted to dance: Orchestral pieces and dances from French operas and ballets by Emmanuel Chabrier, Jules Massenet and Francis Poulenc, before ending with Ravel’s rapidly undulating La Valse.
Don’t miss it!
