Late Night with Jörg Widmann

The clarinet is Jörg Widmann’s special instrument. At this Late Night, our Composer in Residence will display its expressive flexibility – through his Three Shadow Dances, which amount to a microcosm of the instrument’s possibilities, and Schubert’s pastoral Shepherd on the Rock, a partly contemplative, partly virtuosic dialogue between clarinet and soprano. Widmann’s performance partner is Sarah Aristidou, who also will sing the enticing, erotic vocalise Labyrinth V. The Free Pieces, atmospherically concentrated ensemble miniatures, will show off a further exciting facet of Widmann’s sound world.

In this video, Jörg Widman explains why light is particularly important to him for this Late Night. (The video is in German, you can activate English subtitles.)
