The centrepiece of Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s performance with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is Beethoven’s “Pastoral”, a homage to the beauty of nature. But this nature – according to the violinist – is under threat. “The relentlessly advancing environmental problem depresses me. In this project entitled Les Adieux, I want to draw attention to the runaway extinction of species – as a musician’s reaction to current events.” The programme of this staged concert is about farewells and the probing question: are we killing ourselves off?

You can already buy tickets for the end-of-season concert. The Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko conclude the season at the Waldbühne with powerful Russian colours. Sergei Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto is sometimes longing, sometimes rebellious. Star pianist Daniil Trifonov is the perfect interpreter to make the vehement virtuosity and the fragile tenderness of this music audible in equal measure. Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition will also be performed.
