Simon Bernardini first learned to play piano before he switched to the violin. During his studies in music he was trained as a conductor as well as a violinist. He was a concertmaster (leader) of the Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestra of La Scala, Milan, as well as of the Juilliard Orchestra before earning a scholarship to the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Orchestra Academy in 2000, two years later becoming a permanent member of the orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician, he is a regular visitor to renowned festivals and leading concert halls all over the world. Since his debut in 1999 at the festival Musical d’Automne de Jeunes Interprètes, he has been sought after internationally as a conductor, and the violinist has also directed members of the Berliner Philharmoniker: in 2008 at a family concert and in 2009 at the Usedom Music Festival. In addition, Simon Bernardini, who has been a tutor since 2005 at the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, gives master courses at several international festivals.
