Madeleine Carruzzo received her first violin instruction at the age of seven. She studied with Tibor Varga at the Detmold Music Academy, where she passed her concert exam with distinction and was immediately given a teaching appointment. She was leader of the Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra and in 1982 became the first woman member of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In addition to her work with the orchestra, Madeleine Carruzzo also appears as a soloist and plays in various chamber-music ensembles on both violin and viola, for example in the Metropolis Ensemble of Berlin and the Philharmonic String Soloists.
