The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Berliner Philharmoniker are very grateful that, after the cancellation by Daniele Gatti, Zubin Mehta has agreed to conduct Otello in Baden-Baden (directed by Robert Wilson) and Berlin and look forward to working with him.
Zubin Mehta and the Berliner Philharmoniker enjoy a musical friendship of many years, which began in September 1961. In addition to concerts with international symphony orchestras, Zubin Mehta has regularly conducted opera performances at prestigious houses throughout the world. From 1998 to 2006 he was Music Director of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where he was appointed honorary conductor. He has already conducted opera with the Berliner Philharmoniker as well, with two concert performances of Richard Strauss’s Salome at the Berlin Philharmonie in November 1990. He appeared with the orchestra at the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden in 2014 and 2017.
