Tour in Northern Europe with Kirill Petrenko

15 Sep 2021

The Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko will be guests in Northern Europe from 16 to 20 November 2021 with a total of four concerts. The programme includes Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A minor op. 56 “Scottish” and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 in E minor op. 93.

For the first time, the orchestra and its chief conductor will perform at the Musikhuset in Aarhus (concert on 16 November), at the Malmö Live Konserthus (concert on 17 November) and at the Musikkens Hus in Aalborg (concert on 18 November). This short Scandinavian tour will be complemented by a matinee concert at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg on 20 November.

While there is evidence of only one appearance each in Aarhus and Aalborg in the history of the Berliner Philharmoniker, the orchestra has been in Malmö seven times since the first concert in 1897 (then conducted by Franz Mannstaedt), the last time in 1942 under the baton of Wilhelm Furtwängler.  The most recent concerts in Denmark and Sweden took place as part of the Scandinavian tour in November 2012 under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle.

The Asian tour to China, Taiwan and Japan originally planned for November 2021 had to be cancelled due to the Corona pandemic. In the first half of November, as already announced, the programme includes a concert at the Alte Oper Frankfurt (2 November) and a residency at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden (6 to 12 November).
