The Berliner Philharmoniker and their general managers 1882-2017

19 Sep 2017

To mark the appointment of Andrea Zietzschmann as the general manager of the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Berliner Philharmoniker archive takes a look at the personalities past and present who are at the helm of the orchestra away from the concert stage. Using photos, letters and programme booklets, a small exhibition in the south foyer portrays 14 of the orchestra’s general managers, from the busy concert agent Hermann Wolff, who ensured the existence of the Philharmoniker during the difficult early years, and Wolfgang Stresemann, the man behind Herbert von Karajan, to Martin Hoffmann, the predecessor of Andrea Zietzschmann. The exhibition is open until the end of November and can be viewed during concerts in the Philharmonie.
