Schumann vase for Sir Simon Rattle

19 Sep 2014

At the first concert of the Brahms/Schumann cycle of the Berliner Philharmoniker, on 18 September 2014, chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle received the first copy of a “Vase for Robert Schumann” from the hands of Maurice von Dalwigk, Executive Vice President of KPM Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin. For the artwork of the orchestra’s first album produced under its own label, featuring the four Schumann symphonies, KPM Berlin created a piece of music turned into porcelain. Limited to 100 copies, the Vase for Robert Schumann, is a tribute to the romantic sound world of the composer. The colouring and motifs of the four hand-painted flower bouquets capture the moods of the works.
