Probationary period passed: Johanna Pichlmair and Johannes Lamotke

08 Dec 2021

Violinist Johanna Pichlmair and horn player Johannes Lamotke have successfully passed their probationary period with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Congratulations! Johanna Pichlmair has been playing in the first violin section since March 2020. The Austrian-born violinist studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg under Igor Ozim, at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin under Antje Weithaas and Feng Ning, and at Berlin University of the Arts under Nora Chastain. From 2014 to 2016, she was a scholarship holder of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. A winner of numerous national and international competitions, her first engagement was with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in 2017. From there she moved to the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Johannes Lamotke, a member of the horn group since August 2020, also brought several years of orchestral experience with him – as horn player with the Bremer Philharmoniker and principal horn at the Komische Oper Berlin. Born in Cologne, the musician trained under Sibylle Mahni-Haas in Frankfurt, Friedrich Dallmann in Berlin, Thomas Hauschild in Leipzig and Paul van Zelm in Cologne, where he graduated with a Master of Music degree. Like Johanna Pichlmair, Johannes Lamotke is also a prize winner of several competitions.
