Open House Day a great success

Our Open House Day was a day full of highlights and a great success. On 14 June and with fine weather, 12,000 visitors came to the Philharmonie. Among the highlights of the celebrations was an open rehearsal of Jonathan Dove’s children’s opera The Monster in the Maze under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle with the Vocal Hero project choir and many other contributors. Chamber music ensembles from the orchestra played in every space of the building, and in the foyers, the education department presented a programme for the whole family.

There were also workshops, behind-the-scenes guided tours of the Philharmonie, community singing and much more. The garden of the Philharmonie was dedicated to UNICEF’s emergency relief appeal for Syria, and Syrian artists appeared on the outdoor stage. The day was drawn to a close by the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle in the Philharmonie with Richard Strauss’ Rosenkavalier Suite. Including donations and raffle ticket sales, a total of 8,000 euros was raised for UNICEF’s Nepal earthquake relief effort.
