Oboists of the Berliner Philharmoniker

14 Feb 2017

The Landesmusikrat which has highlighted a particular instrument every year since 2008, has selected the oboe as instrument of the year 2017. To mark the occasion, the archive of the Berliner Philharmoniker is holding a small exhibition in the south foyer on the oboists of the orchestra – from Fritz Müller and Jakob Lechner, who were both among the founding fathers of the Philharmoniker, to the members of today’s oboe section Jonathan Kelly, Albrecht Mayer, Christoph Hartmann, Andreas Wittmann and Dominik Wollenweber.

In addition to private photos, images of concerts and rehearsals, plus programme booklets notes and sound recordings that make it clear that the oboist often appeared – and still appears – as a soloist in concerts, the exhibition also shows the collection of mouthpieces from the estate of Helmut Schlövogt and the tools an oboist needs for the preparation of his double reed mouthpiece. The exhibition will run until the end of April 2017.
