Italian baritone Marco Vratogna will be taking on the role of Baron Scarpia in our new Festival production of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca on 13 and 17 April. Due to a last-minute illness, Evgeny Niktin will unfortunately not be able to sing. We all wish him a quick recovery.
Marco Vratogna studied at the Puccini Conservatory in his hometown of La Spezia, and has developed in recent years into one of the most sought-after singers in his field. Such celebrated opera houses as La Fenice in Venice, the Berliner Staatsoper, the Teatro Real in Madrid, Milan’s La Scala, and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London have already invited the singer to perform major roles. Vratogna devotes special attention to the baritone roles of verismo composers. Soon he will also be portraying the role of Baron Scarpia at the Wiener Staatsoper and Opernhaus Zürich.
